Love Stories - Phoebe & Conor

Our Love Stories series celebrates our community's stories of love – from how it all began to what love means to them and more.

Our friend with great taste – writer, stylist and content manager, Phoebe Holden and carpenter, Conor Plant share with us their sweetest love story.

How did you meet?
We met just as Aotearoa went into lockdown. Our first date was at a park in Mount Eden, where we sat two metres apart, talking through masks for hours. From that day, we were both insufferable and inseparable. Conor would drive to my flat, sometimes twice a day, to sit at the end of the driveway. We would drink wine and exchange love letters. When he had to go home, we would play online chess, make playlists for one another and talk on the phone for hours.

What is the thing you love most about each other?
Phoebe: Conor has the kindest heart of anyone I know. He is so patient and gentle — the calm to my chaos.
Conor: Phoebe's generosity, never have I met someone more willing to give their time and energy.

What is something you have bonded over?
Phoebe: We both love music, mostly old. In the early days, Conor would quote Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah in his letters and drunkenly serenade me with One Million Lovers by the Growlers. There is a very blurry, very funny video somewhere on the internet of us doing a duet of Your Song by Elton John which is another of our favourites.
Conor: Nick Cave's Into my Arms is our song. We were lucky enough to see this live in Sydney earlier in the year.

What does love mean to you?
Phoebe: Home in human form.
Conor: Quiet understanding.

What piece of jewellery would you gift each other?
Phoebe: The Darling Signet Gothic, Conor often calls me darling so I think this would be very sweet.
Conor: Well, I know Phoebe has her eyes on the ceremonial pieces ;) with the Lobster Charm coming in at a close second.
