About Onyx: Onyx is a naturally formed carbonate material – calcite. It forms in caves when water drips and evaporates, leaving behind traces of minerals and calcium carbonate which causes the varying colours.
Onyx is commonly available in black and white varieties – we use black onyx stones in our pieces.
What is the meaning of Onyx? Onyx is thought to offer spiritual meanings of protection, willpower, strength and fortune.
What is the history of Onyx? The history of onyx can be traced back to Ancient Greece where its name originated. The name onyx comes from the Greek word 'ὄνυξ' which means 'claw' or 'fingernail'.
Legend says that one day whilst Venus slept, Eros (Cupid) cut her fingernails and left the clippings scattered on the ground. Because no part of a heavenly body can die, the gods turned them into stone which later became known as onyx.

Caring for Onyx: Onyx is a fairly tough stone however it still requires special care.
To clean your onyx stone jewellery, either wipe clean with a moist cloth or use gentle soap and water. Be sure to rinse and remove any residue.
